We help farms, cooperatives, exporters, food companies, investors, and institutions turn environmental and social performance into evidence a buyer, lender, or regulator will accept. Work is scoped to the operation rather than sold as fixed packages, at a scale that suits small and mid-market suppliers.
Anderson-Berens Consulting works across regenerative and climate-smart agriculture, MRV and greenhouse gas accounting, blended and climate finance, sustainable value chains, and market access. Our clients sit in government, the private sector, research institutes, NGOs, standards bodies, and multilateral organizations, and part of what we do is translate between them. The practice works globally with its deepest concentration in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Three initiatives show how we combine method with market-facing execution. Food Systems 75, a scored countdown of regenerative food and beverage companies. Agritour, connecting group buyers with certified farms across Latin America and the Caribbean. And Ag-EDGE, a tiered climate-smart agriculture certification concept designed to link practice adoption to development finance.

How we work
- We say what the data supports and flag what it does not. No emissions figure leaves ABC without its boundary stated.
- Whoever did not run the calculation checks it, and is named in the report.
- Nothing is quoted before a data readiness assessment. That is what makes the delivery price honest rather than a guess.
- Every engagement starts with a free thirty-minute consultation. If an assessment is not worth commissioning yet, we say so.

GHG Protocol Corporate, Scope 3, Agricultural Guidance and Land Sector and Removals standards. ISO 14064-1, 14067, 14040 and 14044. SBTi FLAG v1.2 where target validation is in scope. Calculations run in the Cool Farm Platform, where ABC holds certified adviser status, and in OpenLCA.
ABC does not certify and is not a certification body. No legal or tax advice. We do not file EU due diligence statements, which is the operator’s obligation. Satellite plot mapping is referred to partners.
Founder and Principal Consultant
Dylan Anderson-Berens
Twenty years in food systems, ten of them living and working in Latin America, across development organizations, financial institutions, multinational agribusiness, corporate sustainability platforms, research institutes, government, social enterprises, standards bodies, and small farms. MS in Food Systems from Tufts University’s Friedman School. Bilingual in Spanish and English, with working Portuguese.
What he brings is a set of vantage points that rarely sit inside one practitioner. Corporate sustainability execution inside a major agribusiness (ofi) and a regenerative standard (regenagri). Development finance and MRV design at institutional scale (World Bank Group / IFC). Public-sector trade and regulatory work inside a national government (USDA Foreign Agricultural Service). Multi-stakeholder coordination through CGIAR and CIAT. Underneath all of it, a decade of resident field time that started with farm and NGO program management in Peru.
That is why the practice can move between a corporate sustainability team, a development finance institution, and a government trade office in the same week, and still speak credibly to a cooperative manager in Spanish.

The team
ABC is a small, senior-led team based in Washington, D.C. with associates in Europe and the United States. Each member anchors a distinct technical or geographic capability rather than duplicating generalist support. We work in English, Spanish, and Italian, with working French and Portuguese.
Emily Schmidt · Business Development and Program Design
Ten-plus years in international development, six in monitoring, evaluation and learning and four in grant-cycle management, across USAID-funded programs in Mexico and disaster response coordination with a humanitarian relief organization. Recently completed an MA in World Food Studies at the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo, Italy. Bilingual in English and Spanish, with fluent Portuguese and working French. Her background spans monitoring and evaluation implementation on a $68 million USAID justice reform program, full grant-cycle management on a multi-year USAID governance program, and donor relationship management in disaster response. At ABC, she leads the identification of new funding and partnership opportunities, and supports the development of program concepts and design.
Katherine Ryan-O’Flaherty · Certification and Life Cycle Assessment
Master of Environmental Management from the Yale School of the Environment. Her capstone for a Fortune 500 grocery retailer evaluated six regenerative agriculture certifications against environmental and social outcomes, producing a benchmarking matrix now reflected in ABC’s certification advisory module, which she owns. Certified in GIS and proficient in OpenLCA. Previously built a live impact dashboard and the first climate action plan for Willing Hands in Vermont, managing relationships with more than thirty partner farms.
Heather Stepp · Sustainability Assessment and Field Research
MA in International Development from American University’s School of International Service, with a specialization in Environment and Development. Her thesis drew on four months of field research in Guatemala’s Western Highlands on beekeeping, food sovereignty, and sustainable livelihoods. She brings years of hands-on farming experience including a biodynamic apprenticeship, organic vegetable production, and farm-based education. Co-develops ABC’s sustainability assessment offering. Proficient Spanish.
Mathilde Pescarin · EUDR and Buyer Engagement
Master’s in Food Policy from City St George’s, University of London, with thesis research on sustainability schemes in the UK restaurant sector. Leads ABC’s EU Deforestation Regulation research, including buyer-side and trader-side demand analysis across European roasters and trading houses, and produces the newsletter. Field experience on a bean-to-bar cacao farm and agritourism operation in Thailand. Based between Paris and London. Native Italian, fluent English.
